Legislative Session Opens with PIP on everyone’s mind

As you know TODAY starts the legislative session in Tallahassee.

PIP is up for renewal and Senator Negron has introduced a bill that will eliminate Massage Therapy as a modality that PIP will pay for.

SB 1860 and the House has also adopted a sister bill HB 119.

These are two lines from the bill as written:

Line 49: excluding massage and acupuncture from medical benefits that may be reimbursed under the motor vehicle no-fault law;

Line 563: Medical benefits do not includes massage as defined in s. 480.033 or acupuncture as defined in s. 457.102.

Action item: At the Monthly meeting we need to collect a list of members who bill for PIP out of our chapter for the main office. Just to get an idea of those that do bill PIP insurance.

- HIV/AIDS removal for the need to take this as a mandatory class for licensure.

- Human trafficking (Additional verbiage will be added very soon in the next day or so where watching)

- Senator Negron – Bob Murray and others will be meeting directly on various bills that would hurt our profession.

Legislative awareness days – the state as a whole feels that our money is best served by contacting our local representative and starting a relationship with them.

They are going to have key members needed in Tallahasee but bombaring them with opposition or support on any given bills is not going to presuade them to vote in our favor on any bills at this time. This may change and Scott is going to stay on top of the situation.
